IN-PERSON SESSIONS: Millcreek, Bountiful
VIRTUAL SESSIONS: UT, ID, WY
Heather Dopp, LAMFT (she/her)
As mother of two, Heather’s education and career plans took a short detour when she and her husband decided to expand their family. After a rapid onset of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation during the first trimester of her second pregnancy, Heather became deeply involved in the world of perinatal mental health disorders.
Along with her own lived experience with mental illness, Heather brings her own perspective of life with neurodivergence. After a late dyscalculia diagnosis in college and an ADHD diagnosis nearly ten years later, Heather understands firsthand how complex and oftentimes traumatic living with neurodivergence can be. Heather specializes in ADHD and neurodivergence management and coping strategies, which often begins with processing a lifetime of guilt and shame.
Heather also recognizes the integral part that healthy views of sexuality and positive sexual experiences play in the development of a meaningful and fulfilling life. With an academic specialization in Systemic Sex Therapy, Heather looks forward to collaborating with her clients facing sexual issues from an Emotionally Focused Therapy perspective. Heather believes that through mutual effort, sincere desire, and willingness to be vulnerable, any couple or family can develop safe and nurturing relationships that will last a lifetime and perpetuate joy through future generations.
Heather’s passion for mental health extends beyond clinical practice; in her free time she serves as Advocacy Chair on the Board of Postpartum Support International-Utah (PSI Utah), Co-Chair of the Utah Maternal Mental Health Policy Committee, 20/20 Mom Ambassador, and head of the Maternal Mental Health Caucus for the non-profit advocacy organization Mom Congress. Her volunteer work is centered on advocating for state and federal bi-partisan policies that improve the lives of mothers, parents, and families, including widening access to culturally-informed perinatal mental health services, addressing the growing maternal mortality crisis, and encouraging the development of community-based support systems for young families.
Outside of work and advocacy, Heather loves spending time with her husband, two kids, and three dogs. Her family loves to travel to new places, watch rocket launches, build legos, hike mountains, swim in oceans, and anything else they can all enjoy together.
